Hypnosis & Hypnotherapy

So what's it all about?

Hypnotherapy is the therapeutic work achieved whilst in hypnosis. There are many different ways to treat many different conditions.

So… What is Hypnosis? What does it feel like?

The actual word hypnosis means sleep coming from the Greek word hypnos for sleep. This is really not the case, it is not sleep. In fact James Braid, who first coined this term in 1841 tried to stop this being used, but it was too late!

Every person experiences hypnosis differently, there will be a lot of similarities, but it is an individual experience. Hypnosis has been described like a day dream. It is the state that occurs between being awake and being asleep. We all go through hypnosis on a daily occurrence - when we fall asleep and wake up.

When you are falling asleep, you are allowing yourself to do this - you are still in control. Hypnosis is the same. You are in control at all times. If you do not like something, or feel uneasy, you can easily come out of hypnosis yourself. If, for example, you are being asked a question, you do not have to answer it if you don’t want to. You can not be made to do anything you are not ok with doing.

Although hypnosis & hypnotherapy is very successful with a lot of problems, there is no guarantee. Just as when you go to the doctor, they can not guarantee 100% cure. Both hypnotherapists and doctors do the best that they know how with their knowledge and training.

Be aware of any hypnotherapists that give a 100% guaranteed cure.
